What is Included a Full Car Service

Car services are used to check the condition of your car. It will take into consideration everything from general wear and tear to fluid levels, the engine, brakes and more. A full car service will involve different system checks and adjustments such as:

  • Car battery condition
  • Steering wheel alignment
  • Checking fluid levels – such as engine coolant etc.
  • Checking brakes, tyres, lights and exhausts.

Why should I have my car serviced?

A full car service is not the same as an MOT! Yes, it is another outgoing, but it is a necessary one. A full car service is completely different to an MOT. Getting a full service for your car will take care of general wear and tear, whereas an MOT is an annual inspection for safety.

Longer car lifespan:

If you’re having regular services, your car will have a longer life expectancy. Meaning that you will be driving it for longer and keeping on top of maintenance.

Money Saver:

Taking care of your car and dealing with the smaller issues at an early stage is going to save you money in the long run. Okay, you may be forking out a lot of money at the time of the car service, but it will be worth it in the long run. A healthy car is also more affordable to run, so you will also be saving money on fuel.

Selling and Insurance:

Having a full car service history when it comes to selling your car or trading it in will mean that you can ask for a better price. Insurance companies will also use your car’s service history to determine its pre-accident value.

How long does a car service last and how often should I service my car?

As a full service is a complete check of the whole car, they are generally carried out annually or every 12000 miles and can take on average 3 hours to complete. However, how often you should have your car service will differ for every car and will depend on the age, make, model, mileage and usage.

Your car’s manual will tell you how often to get a full car service, newer cars will have a service reminder light appear on the dashboard. If you don’t drive many miles, it’s still recommended that it’s done once between MOTs.

How much does a car service cost?

A full car service can cost around £250 a year, but this again will depend on the make, model and age of your car.
